Curriculum

YMCA Curriculum is hands-on and developmental

Youth experience the curriculum through a variety of content areas, hands-on activities, clubs, service learning and enrichment centers.  YMCA Curriculum is flexible and fun.  YMCA staff members include the children in the curriculum planning process and pursue children’s ideas for activities.

My son looks forward to the days he is at the Y for longer periods of time, including asking if he can go to "early" Y. This makes me feel comfortable having him in childcare while I pursue a degree.

Karina Ruiz - SMITH FAMILY YMCA

I like to work at Smith YMCA because I have a great boss that would help me and others. I also like it because I like helping kids. I think the YMCA is a great place for kids to come because they get to meet friends and learn the 6 pillars and other fun things they have at the YMCA. My memories from the YMCA is when a child ask me how to spell YMCA; I thought it was funny and cute. I came back because I love my job. The YMCA had showed me how to help families out.

The staff members are friendly. They communicate well about how my child is doing.

Annalise Spanos - Camp

Camp is important to me because it is a chance to have fun and try new things. For example, although I am really scared of heights the high ropes were really fun to try and it is something I would have never done if it wasn't for camp. Also, I love making new friends and becoming closer with the ones I already knew. Camp is an opportunity to escape and forget about things at home. I love camp and I will never forget the great experiences I have there.

I love the YMCA because it's fun and they help us with our homework. I also like it because we go to free play and do crafts. My name is Leslie Villamil, I'm 9 years old and I've been with the YMCA for four years.

Dear YMCA Staff, what I like about the YMCA is that we can do all sorts of things, especially coloring because I love it so much. When the YMCA staff is here cleaning we are at home playing, especially Ms. Dana she has to buy everything for us. Even though the YMCA has a lot of rules it's the best place to be.

I like coming to the YMCA because of my friends and the games that the wonderful staff gives me. The YMCA really comes in handy if I need to come an extra day but I don't mind at ALL! I Love the YMCA!!

Cheyla McLellan - SMITH FAMILY YMCA

I came to the Y as a child and really enjoyed it and had great relationships with some of the teachers. I really looked up to them, so now as an adult while going to school to become a teacher, I thought what a great way to give back and also become a mentor to children. I love working with children and enjoy working for the Y.
