Afterschool Care YMCA Stories

Madison Price - BENSON FAMILY YMCA

I started the YMCA in Kindergarten and my teacher was Ms. Lauren. In first grade my teacher was Ms. Cathy. In the second grade it was Ms. Victoria and Ms. Sarah. In the third grade it was Ms. Victoria, Ms. Tracy, and Mr. Oscar. In the fourth grade it was Ms. Beth and Ms. Tracy. I'm not in the fifth grade yet but I think it's going to be great.

The YMCA is so fun. I'm talking about the middle school YMCA. We go to the beach and talk and do stuff. We are cool and we can have the Wii and Xbox 360. The leaders are the best because they listen to you. You can do projects, watch movies, play games and come up with funny stuff. I think the YMCA is so fun!!

The environment is very positive, safe and welcoming for my child. She enjoys her time at the Y. She also looks forward to the planned activities.

My Y story is when I went to Knott's Berry Farm with the YMCA. It was super fun and I lost track of time and all the coasters were awesome and most of my friends were there.

Catyia Falencki - Camp Oakes

Camp Oakes is a lot more than just playing in the snow and climbing walls, It teaches you lessons that definitely help you in life, I gave grown and matured in the times that I have gone to camp, which in the summer is going to be my 5th summer. I am on my blue rag and next summer I am going to get my silver because I accomplished my goals. My first year I was scared because I didn't know anybody and I didn't know my surroundings. But the counselors, L.I.T.'s, and C.I.T's really helped me and understood me. I can't wait 'til next summer and winter because camp is my favorite place to be. I am going to come back every year until I become a counselor then I will come back every year as a counselor. I also can't wait to get my silver rag because I get to make new goals and achieve them and come back home as a better person. I love Camp Oakes and it is the best place on earth. I never want to leave at the end of the week!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last July. When the school year began, I found that I would undergo chemotherapy. The staff, under Tamara's leadership, was extremely supportive to me as I was sick and lost my hair and was very caring of my son. They were there to talk to him if he was sad about my illness and we all worked through the various phases of chemo together. I could not have asked for a better care situation for my son... and for me!

Amy Trejo - SMITH FAMILY YMCA

I have always enjoyed working with children. I came to the Y with intentions to further my career working with children. Every day at the Y I learn new experiences and get to see a different side to kids out of a classroom setting. I have always been blessed to have the opportunity to work with an amazing and caring staff at Smith.

Susan Herrera - ESTOCK FAMILY YMCA

I am a kindergarten teacher at Estock YMCA in the city of Tustin, California. I feel so lucky to work with my team staff members, Elizabeth Medina, Jessica and Vickey. They make me feel so welcome, show me patience and teach me new things every day. I feel I have been at the "Y" for years even though I've only been there for 6 months. This is my first time working with school age children and so far I learn from them every day. I'm thankful everyday for my job. I am happy and enjoy everything.
