Join the Castille YMCA in its goal to deliver Thanksgiving Dinner to families in need in the Mission Viejo area with the "Box of Love" project. This holiday season, we are supporting a charity called South County Outreach which hosts an annual "Adopt a Family" program that allows the adopter to deliver food donations directly to the adopted family!

LAGUNA NIGUEL FAMILY YMCA ANNUAL SUMMER CAMP Y GAMES
Bringing Kids Together for a Day of Active Fun

On Friday, August 5th, the South Coast Child Care Team at the YMCA of Orange County hosted its annual Y-Games event. "Our annual Y-Games is a YMCA Summer Camp tradition that brings together several of our camp sites for a day of active fun,” says Christine Salas, Director of Operations for YMCA Child Care Services. This year, the event was held at Don Juan Elementary and had approximately 800 children, staff, and volunteers in attendance. Schools from both Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo came together to participate in the event, with each school chanting their unique cheer, waving their handmade flags, and demonstrating school pride as they competed in numerous events like kick ball, obstacle courses, water relays, nation ball, and 50 yard dash and relays. The event was designed as a fun way to expose kids to the importance of healthy living, teamwork, friendly competition, and good sportsmanship. It also gave them the opportunities to learn new skills, interact socially with their peers, and channel their energy into healthy activities. At the end of the day, an award ceremony was held to reward the kids for their efforts. This year, the award for Spirit went to the Bergeson site and the award for most wins goes to the Moulton site. Thank you to all the great parents and volunteers who helped out, and to everyone who stopped by to visit. The event was a great success.

8 More YMCA Afterschool Programs Receive National Honor

Eight more YMCA Afterschool Programs have Received National Accreditation from the Council on Accreditation (COA). COA's commitment to maintaining the highest level of standards and quality improvement is designed to identify providers that have set high performance standards for themselves and have made a commitment to their constituents to deliver the highest quality services. Congratulations to Hawes YMCA (Huntington Beach), Barcelona Hills YMCA (Mission Viejo), Arroyo YMCA (Santa Ana), Estock YMCA (Tustin), Crown Valley YMCA (Laguna Niguel), Wagon Wheel YMCA (Cota de Caza), San Juan YMCA (SJC) and Vista Del Mar YMCA (San Clemente) on this prestigious honor. These programs join 4 other Nationally Accredited YMCA afterschool programs– Moffett YMCA (Huntington Beach), Peterson YMCA (Huntington Beach), Smith YMCA (Huntington Beach), and Wood Canyon YMCA (Aliso Viejo).

COA accreditation is an objective and reliable verification that provides confidence and support to an after school program's children and youth, parents, staff and community partners. The COA accreditation process involves a detailed review and analysis of both a program's administrative operations and its service delivery practices. All are "measured" against national standards of best practice. These standards emphasize services that are accessible, appropriate, culturally responsive, evidence based, and outcomes-oriented.
