WHAT IS Y INCLUSION?
Y Inclusion is an
independent program to facilitate the inclusion of children
toddler through 12 years of age with developmental disabilities
in existing YMCA of Orange County AfterSchool Care programs
as well as other after school and childcare programs throughout
Orange County.
GOAL
The goal is to include children with developmental disabilities
in the after school or childcare program of the family’s
choice. The ultimate goal is for children to be able
to participate in and fully benefit from these programs
utilizing natural supports.
SERVICES PROVIDED
Inclusion Assessment
An inclusion assessment will be carried out for each child
referred to Y Inclusion. Children must be available
for observations both at home and school prior to the initiation
of inclusion services. Parents, teachers, and childcare
staff will be asked to participate in and be available
for interviews and questionnaires.
Inclusion Support
Based on the child’s needs, as recommended by the inclusion
plan, on-site inclusion support may be provided by a Y Inclusion,
inclusion facilitator as authorized and specified by the
Regional Center of Orange County (RCOC).
Trainings/Workshops
Y Inclusion will provide ongoing workshops and trainings
as authorized and specified by RCOC. All YMCA of
Orange County AfterSchool Care staff and Y Inclusion staff
will learn effective ways to include children with developmental
disabilities. The intent of the workshops will be
to assist existing staff to work more effectively with
the children receiving Y Inclusion services. Trainings/workshops
will also assist in the management of behaviors and utilize
the inclusion facilitator to fully include the child in
the after school care and childcare program.
Consultation
Y Inclusion senior staff proactively provide on-site consultation
to address behavioral concerns, inclusion plans, and any
other related need. The Y Inclusion Team monitors
the progress of the inclusion plan’s goals and objectives
and work with the inclusion facilitator to ensure goals
and objectives are being met and all progress is properly
documented and forwarded to the child’s service coordinator
at RCOC.
