Arts & Humanities
Impact
Arts education improved academic performance. According
to the California Arts Council, in a national sample
of 25,000 students, those with high levels of arts
learning experiences earned higher grades and scored
better on standardized tests than those with little
or no involvement in the arts, regardless of socioeconomic
status.
Arts education is a powerful tool for working
with at-risk youth. “Success
in the arts became a bridge to learning and eventual
success in other areas of learning." (From Champions
of Change: The Impact of the Arts on Learning http://www.artsedge.kennedy-center.org/champions.)
Art education can be transformative
and lifelong. Arts programs made
available to families, senior citizens, bereaved,
and other community groups have demonstrated
benefits.
