Executive Director Corner
Wow! Do we have a lot happening in our YMCA! First,
we have started our Y Achievers program at Dwyer Middle School! The
program begins February 1, and operates from the end of the school
day until 6 pm. This program is designed to give 6th, 7th and
8th graders a safe, fun environment after school. The program
is on campus, and features sports, art, homework help, career exploration,
cooking and more!
Healthy Kids Day is set for Saturday, April 5 at Edison High School. We
hope you will join us at this fun, FREE event, designed to
teach kids and families healthy lifestyles. There will be lots
of fun activities for everyone, and t-shirts for all the kids!
Have you thought about Karate? The YMCA has a fantastic instructor
in Gary Pitts! Classes are offered on Monday and Wednesday
evenings at 6 pm at Smith Elementary School. It’s only
$50 per month, or $75 per month for the whole family. Why not
try it out today!
We’re very happy to report that we awarded over $50,000 in
scholarships for families in Huntington Beach in 2007! We also
provided another $50,000 in program subsidy for no cost programs,
like our Oak View Community Center programs. This is all due
to the generosity of our donors, who have chosen West County Family
YMCA as their Charity of Choice. For information on any of
our programs, or to find out how you can help, please call the YMCA
at 714-847-9622.
