Board Spotlight
Roy Gerber joined the West County Family YMCA Board of Managers
in 2006. He is a Past President of the Huntington Beach
Rotary Club , and is a local business owner. Roy has brought
a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to the Board. In
2007, Roy served as the Chairman of the “Bikes for Kids” Program. Through
Roy’s leadership, over 100 bicycles were collected for
the children of the Oak View Community. This project is part
of the Activate America Initiative, which is designed to help kids
get active and get outside, and reduce the incidence of childhood
obesity.
He worked with the Knights of Pythias to have helmets
donated to every child who received a bike. He also ensured
that all patrol cars in the City of Huntington Beach and Fountain
Valley Police Departments received helmets. The
officers are now able to offer children a helmet to promote bike
safety, instead of giving them a ticket.
Roy is also very active
with the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton and with his church. He
has been chosen to receive the Distinguished Service Award at the
YMCA of Orange County Annual Meeting in April. This is the
highest award a YMCA branch can give to one of its volunteers. Congratulations,
Roy, and thank you for all that you do for our YMCA!
