Fellow Warriors -

Over the past 12 weeks I have worked hard, pushed my self, conquered my temptations and truly gained more than I ever imagine. This has truly been a life changing experience for me which I plan to continue to follow into the future.

12 weeks ago: I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to keep up, would burn out on getting up so early every day and would need to push myself to do the sixth day workout.

Today: Surprisingly I wake up most days before my alarm goes off, I can do more than I every dreamed possible and I look forward to my sixth day run.

What the future holds: I have a plan for my post program workout and am contemplating the 1/2 marathon run in Huntington Beach in February as my next workout goal.

Tomorrow: This warrior has her gear ready to rock and roll. All we need is great tunes, so who's bringing the music? :-)

I came to N/E knowing my potential for fitness and athleticism. However, I really came to N/E because I was at the point I needed outside help to get me where I knew I could be. For a long time, I had either been injured or seen exercise as a chore that should get done, but could also frequently be brushed aside. The group setting kept me accountable to the other Warriors, so if I didn't work hard I wasn't just cheating myself but those around me. Learning to closely monitor and evaluate my nutrition did wonders for my health, and this played an integral role in achieving my weight-loss goals. Over all, what I am most grateful to the staff and the program for is the opportunity to learn how to be truly healthy again. N/E will instill an attitude that dismisses unhealthy choices, and values exercise and nutrition as key to a life well-lived. I recommend the program very highly.

About the Trainer:

Vanessa is a proud 44 year old grandmother defying age through her health & fitness practices. She is currently the Health & Fitness Director at the YMCA in Newport Beach, where she provides personal training and teaches many classes including Kick Boxing & Body Combat.   Vanessa holds a number of certifications with ACE, AFAA & NASM including group exercise and personal training (specializing in kickboxing), KoBu Power, Karate Box Aerobics, Silver Sneakers and has also received the High Honor of ‘Instructor Kai’ through the Mahato Karate Dojo where she also studied Shuri-te/Shaolin.  Amongst Vanessa's accomplishements- she has an extensive background in dance, training since the age of 12, as well as experience as a fitness model and spokes person.  She co-created the KoBu Power program & is also trained to certify others as well.

Vanessa trained for her very first competition at the age of 39 and placed 2nd overall putting her in the national finals in addition to receiving the Peoples Choice Award. Another Success Story

   
 

The first week of No Excuses is tough. Everything hurts, the primary question each day is which body part will not be moving from muscle exhaustion. For me, I found two surprises.

I am not flexible. I make stiff people look limber. I scored a negative 8 on the toe touch. I was not a person with any illusions that yoga would be easy. What I was not expecting is that it helped with all the muscle pain. I literally rolled off the side of the bed on Yoga morning, and groaned when I sat in the car. But by the end of it-sweaty and tired as I was- I could move again!

The second was on Saturday. My sport is tennis. I love it. I play even though it hurts my lower back and my shoulder. With "No Excuses" I did not have time to play during the week, and my butt and hamstrings were so tight from the leg work outs my expectations for my performance were low. Not only did I play well, it was easy! Compared to our work outs each morning tennis was a breeze. And the best part was no pain in back or shoulder. Waving the racquet around just didn't compare to the push-ups, the squads and those dreaded shoulder presses! My favorite sport was even more fun to play, especially without injury pain. No Excuses!
