But one year, the proud Shawnee tribe was faced with a disaster. The evil spirit, with giant wings of wax, flew down and starting eating his favorite food, golden yellow corn. "Evil Spirit" flies down and eats all of the corn. "Corn girls" give corn to bird and look sad. "Gardening Girls look sad too. The evil spirit then flew into the clouds so they couldn’t rain any more. The corn grew weaker and weaker.

The tribe ("Gardening Girls") became very tired and weak from hunger and all of the Indian parents and boys gave up. But not the brave princesses, they got together and made a plan to trick the evil spirit. "Gardening Girls get into a huddle, whisper plan and nod their heads up & down

Gardening Girls go to sleep for the night for about 5 seconds and then wake up

"The next morning", when the evil spirit flew down to get the last piece of corn, they grabbed its legs and said "we don’t have anymore corn. You can have all the corn you want by flying to the great kernel of popcorn in the sky". The Sun holds up the yellow ball. The evil spirit was so excited, that he turned and flew towards the great kernel of popcorn in the sky, which was the Sun!

As he flew closer to the Sun, his wings of wax melted and the evil spirit disappeared forever.

The clouds were able to rain again and the corn began to grow and grow and grow. The Shawnee princesses had saved the lives of all of their Indian parents and brothers. All of the tribes in the nation applauded the girls to thank them for stopping the evil spirit from attacking their crops too.
