“Mindie is always asking how she can help. She supports campaign to the fullest every year. She is eager to offer her time and money to support the cause. She has even paid for another member to attend the all site sleepover because her parents couldn’t afford to send her.”
-Tamara Hoyt, Director, Don Juan Avila YMCA
My daughter Olivia started the YMCA the summer before kindergarten, after meeting Miss Julie and Mrs Cherie I felt a great amount of comfort knowing she would be well taken care of. Having no other children I was not sure what to expect, how involved I was supposed to be and the amount of care and attention it takes. It wasn’t long until Olivia was asking to be picked up later and later each day.
As I got to know the staff I realized how much they truly care for our children, as I could not do their job. I am fortunate to be able to give when things are needed, I would do anything to help the YMCA and Tamara if it benefits the kids. I donate sunblock and various things if needed, but the real impact is one that is directly for the children. It breaks my heart when some kids are less fortunate and cannot attend things like the overnighter, so I have paid for kids to go in the past.
I love that the Y gives back to the community, I will always help in any way I can. Christmas time there are always families in need, I love to donate presents to bring joy to kids in need. I am so thankful for the love and care that the teachers have, Its a good feeling to know they have positive influences surrounding them daily. I am not sure all parents really think about it that way.
