A graduate of Santa Margarita Catholic High School, Alec excelled in water polo and swim team. Alec has always shown YMCA’s core values of trust, respect, responsibility and caring. As a swim instructor, splash ball coach, and lifeguard, water safety is something Alec takes seriously and teaches in all of his classes. Alec also wants his students’ to be successful, to have fun and to enjoy the time spent in his classes. “It’s always a rewarding feeling seeing how happy my students get when they are able to do what I have been teaching them all by themselves.” In his spare time Alec enjoys spear fishing, scuba diving, working out, and watching hockey.
Currently attending school, she will be attending Hillsdale College in the fall. She has been a club swimmer for 12 years! Her favorite activities are swimming and go to the beach. Her love working for YMCA comes from she enjoys sharing her passion for swimming, the water and having amazing coworkers.
Amy has been a valuable member of the Mission Viejo YMCA for over five years. She recently graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Psychology. She is continuing her education in the hopes of becoming a physical therapist at Loma Linda University Medical Center. In her free time, she loves to surf in Newport Beach, swim, eat at Banzai Bowl, and play Dodgeball with her YMCA friends.
Kayla brings three years of lifeguard experience and six years as a swim instructor to the YMCA. She holds a WSI certificate as well as CPR/First Aid and AED. She recently graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Business and concentration in Accounting. She is currently taking classes and studying to become a CPA. In her free time, Kayla loves hiking, traveling and dogs.
Kendra has been a swim instructor at the YMCA in New Jersey since 2008. She recently moved to Southern California, and became a team member here at Mission Viejo. She is a recent graduate from Wagner College in New York with a degree in Psychology. Kendra hopes to pursue teaching or a career in higher education administration. In her free time, Kendra enjoys exploring her new hometown in Orange County.
Lexi is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and is currently pursuing a nursing degree. She has been in the water all of her life from being on the swim team, playing water polo to now teaching swim lessons. She has been an instructor for going on eight years. She has worked with a wide range of age groups starting from very young to those who want to check it off their bucket lists. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, she loves to travel and take new adventures whenever she gets the chance to. In the future, she wants to be an ER nurse and help care for those in need.
Stacey is a national and international champion in synchronized swimming. She swam with the USA National Synchronized Swim Team for five years. After taking some time out of the water raising her two young children, Stacey is now jumping back in and bringing ten years of swim instruction experience with her. She loves teaching all ages but especially likes working with young children and getting them safe in the water.
Sally has been a swim instructor in the YMCA aquatics programs for over 11 years. She loves to teach babies, youth, and adults. She believes that we are never too young or too old to get comfortable with the water or learn to swim. There are so many benefits from swimming for all ages. She enjoys taking a non-swimmer and not only teaching them how to swim, but how to love the water. Sally has a lot of athletic experience both in and out of the water. She swam competitively as a young girl and through high school. She also competed in synchronized swimming.
The Mission Viejo Swim Instructors are a team of highly trained, experienced, and active individuals. All of our instructors are Red Cross First Aid/CPR/ AED trained. Many have WSI and/ or YMCA swim instructor certifications.
Our team is dedicated to the safety and well- being of their swimmers. Our instructors are professional and caring.
Grant has been working for the Mission Viejo YMCA for almost 3 years. He has over 16 years of experience teaching people to swim. He has worked previously at the YMCA’s of Riverside, Oceanside, Encinitas, and the YWCA of Hawaii. He graduated from the University of Hawaii in 2005 with a BA in Health and Physical Education and holds a Teaching Credential as an Education Specialist for Special Education students with Moderate/Severe Disabilities. Grant has been a Special Education teacher for over 8 years. Grant also has experience as a Swim and Water Polo coach at the High School Level.
Grant is comfortable teaching people of all ages, he teaches Parent-Child classes, Adult classes, as well as everyone in between. He has even used his experience as a Special Education Teacher to accommodate people with Special Needs in his swim classes. In his free time, he enjoys Surfing, Paddle Boarding, Golfing, and playing Poker.
Annalise brings over 10 years of competitive swimming experience to the YMCA team. She currently plays water polo and studies history at Azusa Pacific University. She hopes that new swimmers can share her passion for being in the water. She is excited to show others how fun swimming can be! In her free time, she enjoys trying new recipes, watching movies, and spending time with friends.
Vance graduated from Capistrano Valley High School and currently attends Cal State Fullerton. With his five years of Swim Lessons and Lifeguard experience, Vance is able to create a fun and safe learning environment for all ages. From a young age, he has always had a love for water and water sports and brings this excitement to every lesson. Vance strives daily to live by the YMCA’s core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring. In his free time, Vance enjoys playing hockey, swimming, going to the beach, and spending time with family and friends.
Julia is a Senior at Laguna Hills High School. She has swum competitively for six years and has been on the Varsity Swim Team for three years and also plays water polo. Outside of the pool, Julia enjoys going to the beach, hanging out with friends, and walking her dogs. After high school, she plans to attend a college in California to major in Biology. Julia loves to teach lessons at the YMCA because she gets to share her love for swimming with the kids.
