YMCA NEW HORIZONS ART SHOW

Art from Within

On Saturday, April 30th members of the YMCA New Horizons Program for adults with developmental disabilities were featured in an art show at the OC Fine Arts Studio in Santa Ana. For some it was easy to express what they feel by using words and articulating their feelings. For others it was very hard to express, or even understand, the emotions they were experiencing. At the OC Fine Art Studio, instructor Jila Hakimi has given that opportunity to these new artists from the YMCA New Horizons Program. They attend art classes with Jila each month, who generously donates her time and talent to give back to the community and allow these exceptional adults to express their emotions through art.

New Horizons is a program within the YMCA of Orange County Community Services Division that gives adults with developmental disabilities opportunities to make new friends, become more independent, and reach their goals and dreams in life. New Horizons has been a part of the YMCA of Orange County since 1974, and members attend events ranging from dinner and a movie to weeklong trips to the Grand Canyon. While the members enjoy what the community has to offer, their family members/caregivers are given a break.
