Norma LaFrance has been a member of our SilverSneakers® program for 10 years and is one of the quiet volunteer heroes we have. Norma attends our 1pm SilverSneakers® class five days a week. Norma sits in the back of the class by the door. In this position she is ready to welcome new members, introduce them to the class and help them with class setup. Norma is sure to introduce the members to the instructor and to encourage them after class to come back and to join in our other activities and events.
It’s Norma who calls members who have been out of class to check up on them. And class participants call Norma when they aren’t going to be in class. Once a month the SilverSneakers® members have a potluck lunch. Norma is the “Queen” of these potlucks. She arrives early to set up the tables, to decorate the room and to see that all is in order. With the help of other members and Norma’s direction the potlucks are a big success and well attended.
Every day after class Norma sits with other members to have coffee and to just talk. It is here that she extends herself to help all feel a part of the group…encouraging and sharing with others. Not only is Norma a willing and helpful volunteer each class day, she also is a volunteer for the Y’s annual campaign. If asked what the Y means to her, Norma would tell you that the Y is her second home. We are grateful and so fortunate to have Norma at the Laguna Niguel Family YMCA!
A day at the Y wouldn’t be the same without her!
