Rich is a member at the Fullerton Family YMCA
Approximately ten years ago I was a marathon runner, completing five marathons with a 3:30 PR. A little over a year ago I found myself overweight and unhealthy. My family had a YMCA membership and my daughters have been involved in volleyball and gymnastics over the years, but I didn’t take advantage of the gym for myself. I always had an excuse; too busy, too lazy, too indifferent.
My sister in law, Rachele Jareb, was attending the YMCA and taking classes so I decided to join her at Boot Camp, being taught by Kristy. At this point I weighed about 250 pounds and wasn’t very healthy. I went to the class, was out of breath and could barely complete the exercises. I continued to go to Boot Camp and then joined the Lets Move Challenge. I started doing cardio as my competitive nature took over during the Lets Move Challenge. I continued to run, took boot camp twice a week, and added weight lifting to my regimen.
Now, a year later, it has become a lifestyle and I’m down about 60 pounds. My health is great and I feel like the work is just beginning. I’m thankful for the boot camp class and the YMCA for providing the positive atmosphere to be consistent in living a healthy lifestyle.
