TOGETHER WE CAN

Volunteer with the YMCA of Orange County

The YMCA has volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups who want to make a difference in their community and support our non-profit efforts in Orange County, Riverside County and San Gabriel Valley.

Types of Volunteer Opportunities

Below are the volunteer opportunities that have been created for individual adults. Please select an opportunity that meets your interests and commitment level.

Days of Service  Days of Service provide needed manpower for Y events. This volunteer opportunity is ideal for individuals who want a short term commitment, like working around people and who enjoy the recreational side of the Y. A typical assignment during a Day of Service might include setting up activities, registration support, running an activity booth, or other related assignments.

Fundraising  The Y strives to keep programs open to all, which means the need for funds to support our scholarship program. Individual volunteers can help us fundraise by taking part in our Annual Campaign or creating their own fundraiser that will benefit the Y.  This opportunity is ideal for groups who want a flexible volunteer schedule, are comfortable asking others to help in a cause they believe in and who wish to impact the opportunities that others have to learn, grow and thrive. Fundraising volunteers are typically committing to a few hours a week over a 2-3 month period.

Blanket Drive & CARES Bags (Winter)
Make a blanket for a senior citizen in need! Help us fulfill our mission by providing low-income and homeless senior citizens with a warm handmade tie blanket made by you and your team! Senior citizens will receive a blanket and CARES bag full of essential items around the holidays and look forward to it every year. Available October-December.

How you can help: The YMCA can deliver empty bags to your office and your group can organize your efforts to donate items and fill bags. Once the bags are filled, the YMCA will collect and distribute the bags based on areas of need. Groups can also participate in creating homemade tie blankets that will be included with the bag. This activity can be completed at your office or at a YMCA facility.

Essentials for Young Lives and Service Learning Donation Drive (Spring)
Mothers and children are the fastest-growing segments of the homeless population. The Y, as the largest non-profit dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, has the opportunity and capacity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of homeless infants and toddlers. The Y partners with HomeAid and the Children and Families Commission of Orange County to raise essentials and awareness to support homeless families as they rebuild their life.

How can you help: Participate by donating and conducting drives for essential care items like diapers, wipes, care products and food for homeless infants and toddlers. Corporate Groups can also help on a sorting day where volunteers will help sort, count and prepare donations for distribution.

Backpack and Supply Drive (Summer)
The YMCA’s goal is to ensure that kids in our underserved communities are prepared to learn. Having the proper supplies allows children to feel confident that they can succeed in a classroom environment.

How you can help: Participate by collecting backpacks and supplies at your office! You can also host backpack “stuffing parties”!

Student Projects  Some of the most important work done by volunteers is addressing a need they see within the Y. Student Projects allow volunteers to work independently on a project that the Y suggests or that the volunteer.
