Summer of SOY at Camp E.L.K.
As school kicks off and summer winds down, we look back at all the fun adventures and children we served at Camp ELK this year. Over the summer, students from across Southern California joined us at Camp ELK to explore nature, build friendships, find themselves, and unplug from daily life. Many of our programs helped campers learn social skills, connect with nature, and expand their creativity.
Summer Programs include:
- Arts and Crafts
- Climbing Wall
- Primitive Skills and Shelter Building
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
- Theater Games (Bully Prevention Focus)
This year we partnered with Save Our Youth (SOY) to send 59 youth from low-income families to camp. We served SOY campers from ages 12-18 and participants also enjoyed small interest group sessions in addition to regular programs based on interests of their choosing. The sessions were incorporated by our qualified Camp E.L.K. staff after input from campers themselves.
SOY Programs included:
- The Arts
- Chicano Studies
- GaGa Ball
- Music and Drum Circle
- Substance Abuse and Healthy Lifestyle
- Unpacking Emotional Luggage
We pride ourselves at Camp E.L.K. in creating and fostering the community in a meaningful way that connects campers to their peers. Our campers gain life skills and social skills by engaging in educational and fun activities with other campers different from themselves. The activities are structured to set up campers for success through multiple opportunities a day to build self-confidence outdoors, staying active. everyday problem solving, and fun activities. We make camp for everyone. Don’t miss out on an amazing opportunity and a lifetime of memories, opportunity for growth and good times around the campfire.
