AS&F Foundation Helps Make Summer
at Camp E.L.K. a Success
AS&F Foundation has been supporting the YMCA of Orange County for 18 years, and in the past five years has contributed $200,000 towards our camp programs—providing scholarships and opportunities for low-income and at-risk youth to attend summer resident camp.
The YMCA of Orange County recently acquired Camp E.L.K. in Wrightwood, CA and just finished running our first successful season of summer camp. Of the 320 children that attended this summer, many came to us from foster care, transitional housing, or qualified for our scholarship program due to family income.
Since camp ended, we have received so many thank you’s and positive messages from kids, parents, and caregivers for making Camp E.L.K. a possibility.
“Thank you for this wonderful experience for my son. My son is bipolar. In a week, his counselor taught him not to use his disability to be a victim and to view himself as confident and have a view on life that he can do anything. I am so happy with the results. [He] made such an impression on my son, something we have been trying to do for a long time. [My son] now knows that whenever you fall you get back up and try again because that’s what survivors do. I recommend this camp to everyone especially kids who need to build self-esteem.”
It is because of supporters like the AS&F Foundation that we are able to bring this life-changing program to this camper and so many more Southern California youth. Thank you AS&F Foundation!
