Carmen Vieyra is a volunteer with the New Horizons Adults with Disabilities program from YMCA Community Services, nominated by Carla Reyna. This is her story.
Carla tells us more about how Carmen gives back:
Carmen Vieyra is always asking when and what she can do to help. The first time she was asked to volunteer was during the 2014 Annual Campaign. She did not know if she was able to go out and ask for money, but she knew that she could use her cooking talents to host a dinner to help raise funds. She did so in March 2014 as she hosted a “Food for a Cause” dinner at her house. She served enchiladas, sodas, salads, jellos, and much more. Everything was delicious and she was so happy to host this dinner at her house in efforts to support the YMCA campaign. Just recently at the YCS 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast, she volunteered her time and talents once again to provide face painting. Apart from taking care of her family and grandchildren, she still makes time and checks in frequently with the New Horizons program to see what she can do and give back.
