THE BROTHERHOOD OF SOCCER
Jesses’ Story: In the Winter of 2011 Eduardo heard of an indoor soccer place that had just opened and decided to sign up his team. He knew we had a very small amount of teams and asked if he could volunteer his time because he was a Referee and might know of teams that would like to play. Over the next few weeks he invited over 30 adult and youth soccer teams from around the area to play at the Santa Ana Y. Our city is very competitive and rough when it comes to sports, but Eduardo has spread the Y beliefs to our neighbors and got them to come play soccer.
Eduardo tells them “This is the YMCA. While you are here please be on your best behavior and be responsible. Show respect, honesty, and caring for others.” The soccer teams were grateful they were introduced to the YMCA. Today you can find Eduardo out on the fields every night. He may only be one person but he is as good as many.
Eduardo’s Story: Volunteering at the YMCA has helped me meet many people and I’ve related to each and every one of them. I feel like I have helped many coaches by explaining to them that soccer is a beautiful and entertaining sport. It’s a way to exercise without fighting. I want to continue to volunteer at the Y because soccer is my passion and my favorite way to have fun. Thank you to the people have given me the opportunity to volunteer at the Y!
