GENEROSITY AT ITS BEST
Ashley’s Story: Pat, or as we call her, “Grandma” has been a huge part of the YMCA. She is always bringing in supplies for crafts and fun activities for the children. Her grandchildren, who are enrolled at Concordia YMCA, always come with a smile on their face. They are always laughing and making the best of every situation. Even though they don’t utilize our morning care before school, Pat and her granddaughters stop in daily just to say hello. Pat and her family have been with the YMCA for four years now, and although I have only been here for one year, I feel like I have known them since the beginning. A lot of parents think that they YMCA is just a place to drop off their children while at work, but this family is constantly being a part of all our meetings and half nighters like it is their second family. I will never forget the one day when there was an accident on the I-5, causing traffic to be completely stopped. We had our trunk-or-treat that night which meant it had already been a long day and was a late night. Pat knew I lived far away so after she left the Y, she called me and offered to let me spend the night at their house so I wouldn’t have to sit in the traffic. Although I turned down the offer, Pat and her family’s unbelievable generosity, and her caring & giving heart has always stayed with me. I know that some people have other choices for childcare, so it really means a lot to me that this certain family has chosen to come to and stay with the YMCA.
