“My summer started with my usual once weekly routine of Swimming a mile (72 pool lengths, 1 ½ hours), 1 hour of elipticals & 2 hours of Circuit Training. I felt great, was in good shape & my doctor agreed – “Keep up the good work”. Cholesterol, excellent – A1C, much improved (8.0 to 6.5) – Glucose, 74.
The Mission Viejo YMCA posted a flyer for an exercise class with a Health Evaluation Session and a recipe for a Protein Smoothie courtesy of our trainer, YMCA Physical Fitness Instructor & Personal Trainer, Nathan Brennan. After an exercise-stretching class and receiving our protein smoothie recipe, I spoke with Nathan. His evaluation of my chronic ‘stooped-shoulders’ was right-on. He offered exercise tips, suggested getting a massage and set up a work-out regiment for me. My initial feeling of Nathan was one of being at ease. His natural warmth, sincerity and caring was apparent. He actually did care about others and wanted to help them.
I started TRX classes soon after that on Tuesdays at 9:30am, 4:30pm & 6:30pm and on Thursdays at 6:30pm. I was amazed at Nathan’s knowledge of the human body and its muscularity. I was further impressed at how well-prepared he was at each and every class; concentrating on core, back-upper and lower, legs-calves, ankles and feet, arms-shoulders, biceps and triceps. Not one area was neglected. And his natural concern and caring was evident for each and every student whether a beginner or expert. The feeling of closeness, unity and purpose is very evident at each class.
If you get a chance to experience one of Nathan’s classes, you too will be amazed. His music at each class is hand-picked and complements the workout. Be sure to ask him about his protein smoothie recipe: yogurt, mixed fruit, coconut milk, whey protein power, egg or white rice/pea protein and dynamic green veggies.
Be sure to give it a try…you too can be amazed!”
