Santa Ana & Tustin
Our before and after school care provides opportunities for your child to learn, grow, and thrive as they make their way from kindergarten through 8th grade. We provide daily physical and educational activities like sports and recreation, homework support, club curriculum, and technology that allow students to engage in the learning process and have fun with friends at the same time!
Director Jose Rios-Hernandez
My name is Jose Rios-Hernandez and I’m the Director at Arroyo YMCA and I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. I have been working for the YMCA since June 2011, and I can say I do not regret it. Through my journey with the YMCA and with the help of my biggest supporter, Jaime Alls, I have grown and expanded my skills to help children know that they matter and that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
I love working with children for many reasons. One being that I see them grow, learn and experience new things while being at the YMCA. One of my favorite things about working with the YMCA is that everyday I learn new things from working with all types of children. I love seeing the way they open up to us and how we become part of their lives and daily routines. Another reason that is very special to me personally is when parents say “you were the topic at our dinner table”, mainly because it shows that the YMCA does impact the growth and development of the children. I can also add that just as we teach the children become a better image of themselves, I also believe they teach us become better role models at the YMCA.
Director Maggie Calero
Hello! My name is Maggie Calero, I have been working in the childcare field for the past 5 years. I currently attend Saddleback College where I am finishing up my AA in ECE. Being part of the YMCA family has been an amazing experience from getting to know each family to growing with them. I look forward to having a sun, safe, and educational environment for you and your children. I love encouraging each and every child in my program to feel empowered in their education!

Director Elizabeth Medina
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Medina and I’ve been with the YMCA since 2004. My desire to work with children began at a young age. As a child I fell into the responsibility of taking care of my younger brother. He was born with Down Syndrome. As I grew up I became his primary care giver. Both my parents worked long hours and our babysitter did not know how to handle him. For many years, after school I would focus on teaching him reading, writing, number recognition and some self help skills. When I graduated high school I decided that I wanted to teach other children as I had my bother. Seeing the difference in my brother’s skills inspired me to want to do the same for others. My philosophy is that children are our future. My goal is to be a part of children’s special moments. Moments that will shape each child’s future in a positive way.
