Thank you as&f Foundation for funding camp scholarships for 100+ low-income youth!
The as&f Foundation has been an annual supporter of the YMCA of Orange County for 17 years! They currently support low-income children with funding for the Camp Oakes residential scholarship program. These scholarships have benefited hundreds of children including Miles Adams and his mother Erica:
“I am a single Mom of two boys, trying to work hard and give them all they need and deserve to be happy and healthy, often falling short of the things they desire because of finances. Since my kids have been enrolled in the YMCA programs, not only are the staff members so great and helpful in giving my kids the best care, they go above and beyond to always include them in special things like Camp Oakes. My son Myles has gone for his third year now and he loves it more and more every time,” said Erica Lyon.
Financial Assistance Scholarships are funded by caring foundations, corporations, and the YMCA Annual Campaign. They are offered to low, very-low, and extremely-low income families for all of the programs that the YMCA offers. To Erika and her family, financial assistance, funded by as&f Foundation, is the only way her son Miles can participate in camp.
“[The YMCA] has helped me greatly with the cost of things and always [help] in the nicest most giving manner. They have reached out to my family personally when things come up they know Myles will enjoy and make sure we can be a part of it in a way that suits my family financially.”
YMCA Camping programs are educational and experiential: promoting cognitive development, physical well-being, social growth, character development, leadership skills, and a respect for the environment. Through a variety of activities and the use of natural surroundings, YMCA camping programs encourage participants to explore and develop their interests and abilities in a safe and nurturing environment.
“The experience for him is something he will never forget. None of this would be possible without the scholarship program,” said Lyon.
Lyon’s son, Miles Adams, is so grateful for this support and the opportunity to attend camp and, in his own words, says ‘thank you’ to as&f Foundation for their support:
“I love Camp Oakes and all the camp leaders and I know the scholarship program helps my mom to make sure I get there every year without her having to worry about me or how to pay for it. The YMCA makes her life easier and my life fun!”
