Y Kids Making
A Big Impact In
Tireless Efforts from Thousands in Orange County Drive the YMCA to its Philanthropic Goal
The YMCA of Orange County’s Annual Campaign season has been a tremendous success thus far not only raising money, but raising awareness for the programs and assistance that the Y offers in an effort to support its mission of providing all individuals the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Vice President of Advancement, Dolores Marikian, had this to say about what this time means to her:
“Every year at this time we are able to renew our belief in what we do here as an organization, teaching the kids in our childcare programs about the importance of giving back and celebrating the many volunteers that help us make the community stronger.”
This year’s campaign has utilized the efforts of members, volunteers, staff, parents, and kids from the San Gabriel Valley, all throughout Orange County, and east to Riverside County. The collective reach allows the Y to spread the message that donating, whether it be time or money, creates a better you and in turn a better us. Despite mostly being under the age of twelve, it is the children that make a big impact when it comes to raising funds for people in need. With the help of their parents, teachers, and volunteers, our childcare programs have reached and surpassed their fundraising goals by holding local events or doing good deeds for donations, proving that sometimes the biggest hearts can come from the smallest bodies.
Here is Noah from the Concordia Y Afterschool Care Program in San Clemente:
Neither the kids, nor the volunteers, staff, and all other participants are ready to concede their efforts towards the Y’s goal of surpassing $800,000. With that money, so much can be done:
- A donation of $1,000 can sponsor 3 kids in our Earn A Bike youth obesity prevention program that teaches exercise and healthy eating habits to the entire family
- $500 – 1 week of resident summer camp for a child to unplug from technology, explore the great outdoors, and connect with themselves and others
- $100 – provides a child the opportunity to build character and strength through an 8-week session of youth sports programming
- $50 – provides six weeks of swim lessons, giving a child confidence around water and teaching them potentially life-saving skills
A gift of any size can benefit our community and 100% of every donation goes towards the desired program. If you would like to make a gift, visit ymcaoc.org/donate and find out if your employer will match you!
