Read about the Director, Claudia Guzman

Hello! My name is Claudia Guzman. I’ve been working in Childcare for almost a decade with kids ranging from Infancy to School Age. My significant other and I have a 2 year-old daughter who is the love of our lives. We currently live in Rowland Heights in the San Gabriel Valley. My favorite hobbies are running, reading, and spending time with our family. In 2010, I graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies and earned 2 Associates in Arts degrees from Mt. San Antonio College in 2007. I have also attended UCLA and Saddleback College.

Since I was a little girl, I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. Many of my childhood role models were my teachers because they were intelligent, thoughtful, nurturing and creative, and I wanted to be like them one day. That’s what led me to become a Teacher at the YMCA. Five years later, I am proud to have begun my new role as Benson YMCA’s Director.

Like when I was a little girl, I still strive to be a role model for the children that I get the privilege to work with every day. I take great pride in my role as a mentor, leader and confidante. I hope that what I teach children will one day help them become great citizens of our community who will accept the role of being mentors to the people that they meet.

“Both of our children have been a part of the YMCA’s KPlus program and we have been very happy with the results. With school class sizes getting larger, the extra attention they get at the Y helps them to fully understand concepts they are learning and get more valuable learning time during the day. The program has kept them ahead of the game and has helped them to better manage their work and play time from a young age.” – Jim Blake-Kinder parent

“I love to go to the YMCA because you get to help share, and play with friends. But I like to carve pumpkins. I like the Y! TODAY is the Best day ever!” – Meera 8 yrs old
