Read about our Service Learning Projects

Service Learning Projects
Here at Laguna Niguel YMCA we like to focus on Service Learning projects that put an emphasis on learning. We have held lemonade stands for Alex’s Lemonade Stand foundation, have had the kids learn the impact of hunger through a “No Kid Hungry” bake sale where the children spend time realizing how expensive some of their favorite foods are to create, we write letters to troops overseas, and the kids volunteer frequently to help keep our campus

Family/Special Events
We love family events! Every year we do a big Trunk-or-Treat Halloween Bash, a Holiday Half Nighter Drop-and-Shop, Talent show, K Plus Literacy Night, Y CLUBS Showcase, Family Movie Nights, and more! We participate in the branch wide All Nighter and 5th Grade Extravaganza as well.

KICC (Kids in Charge of Their Community) Activities or Leadership Opportunities
The kids at our site help create our daily curriculum, develop our snack menus, get to practice their writing skills by writing kid written newsletters, assist in preparing and serving snack, mentor younger children, and plan class parties and family events! We are developing a L.I.T (Leaders in Training) program this Fall to allow older children to hold leadership positions here at the site.

Read about the Director, Kimberly Garcia

My name is Kimberly Garcia and I am the Child Care Director at Laguna Niguel YMCA. I was born and raised in Orange County and attended Irvine Valley College to expand my education in Child Development. I’ve had the privilege to work alongside amazing teachers and staff that have motivated me to pursue a career in Child Care. I have worked with children for about five years and can’t imagine myself doing anything else. Working with children every day encourages me to be a living example of what I teach: Kindness, Fairness, Responsibility, Respectfulness, and Caring. It’s an honor to be part of these children’s lives and have the opportunity to encourage, inspire, and fortify. Throughout the year we participate in community events, encourage the children to reduce reuse and recycle, and to care for the elderly. As a team, our goal is to create an inviting, safe, and fun environment for the kids and their families!

I am very close to my parents and my ultimate goal in life is to be able to care for them. I enjoy cooking with my mom and learning the family recipes that I hope one day I can teach my children. I have a puppy named “Mosses” and two turtles “Shrek and Fiona.”  I am looking forward making memorable memories with all of you!

“YMCA LNES after-school care is such a blessing! They provide fun-filled educational indoor and outdoor activities everyday! They also help with school homework before playing. The staffs are so attentive and they treat all kids with such great care. This is indeed a safe place for kids. My daughters enjoy spending time at Y, and most of the time – they don’t want to leave! 🙂 ” – Sheila, Laguna Niguel YMCA Parent

My 2 daughters have been going to the YMCA after school program the last 2 yeas. Overall it has been a wonderful experience. They enjoy the different activities that range from arts and crafts to various sports. I really appreciate the fact that on the days they go to the Y, when they come home the majority of their homework, if not all, is completed. In our home that is very helpful as there are 2 working parents and the kids are very active in sports.

“The YMCA also hosts several “half-night” events throughout the school year. My kids are always wanting to go to these fun-filled events. The Y has a really good staff that take great care of my kids. Most importantly I have never felt that my kids have been in an un-safe environment.” – Tommy, Laguna Niguel YMCA Parent

“Staff are well engaged with students and know their habits and personalities. Director seems to be very involved with managing facility. Always accessible. I feel comfortable that my children are closely watched and are safe. I have not heard any problems with bullying so I assume those issues –if any– are resolved immediately.” – Laguna Niguel YMCA Parent

“First of all my kids enjoy going to the YMCA, they like their teachers and that’s very important. I am happy my kids do fun and educational activities, and get help with their homework as well.” – Laguna Niguel YMCA Parent

“The YMCA has been a life saver. My son’s father passed away last year and my son moved from San Diego to Laguna Niguel to live with me and the YMCA helped us make the transition successfully. He had somewhere to go after school so he wouldn’t be alone. He made friends and the counselors really made him feel like it was a second family. He loves the the counselors at the Y.” – Laguna Niguel YMCA Parent

Kelsey is THE BEST! I’ve seen her plan parties and I think she may even have more fun than the kids. Her enthusiasm is contagious and we are so lucky that she is our director. The kids have fun because she has fun. But she is also very observant and productive!– Laguna Niguel YMCA Parent
