Read about the Director, Heather Michelson

My name is Heather Michelson.  I have been working with children for almost twenty years.  I started working with children at the YWCA.  I absolutely loved the work I did as well as the families, children and coworkers.  I have worked with all ages whether in a preschool or in residential care as an administrator for a group home for children whom were abused and neglected.  I have enjoyed all my work with children; however I have never been as happy as I am at the YMCA!  My educational focus is on psychology, literature and child development.

I appreciate and agree with the YMCA’s stand for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  Working at the YMCA has motivated me to make healthier choices for myself than I already do.  I am always inspired to help others with our service learning projects to help the community and challenge myself and others to see how much we can help.

I am passionate about helping others.  I was a CASA (court appointed special advocate for three different children for a total of six years.  This is a voluntary position and I spoke for children in court.  I am also passionate about animal treatment.  I am an advocate for animals, have volunteered for animal shelters and am vegetarian.  I also volunteered as a sign language interpreter for a middle school as well as providing one on one tutoring.

Quality child care is important to me.  It is important that my teachers and I provide the best program we can.  We strive to ensure the children and safe, happy and eager to come to the Y!  I look forward to providing the highest quality child care program to the children, parents and families at Smith YMCA.
