Read about our Service Learning Projects

C.A.R.E.S. Backpack Drive: In collaboration with C.A.R.E.S., we collect new backpacks and school supplies to help kids start the school year off right. C.A.R.E.S. is a YMCA program offering Christian Assistance Resources Education & Services to staff, members and communities.

Essentials Drive: collect essential items for homeless infants and toddlers, and help raise awareness to support homeless families.

Coastkeepers Beach Cleanup: in partnership with Orange County Coastkeepers, this service learning project includes educational activities and field excursions where kids will have the opportunity to learn about their local watershed, receive resources to take positive actions for their environment, learn about ocean pollution and make a difference themselves by conducting a beach clean-up.

Stocking for the Troops: The YMCA of Orange County partners with Words of Comfort, Hope and Promise, Cub Scout Pack 290 and Starbucks stores in the area to collect as many donations as possible to send to our troops oversea for the Christmas season.

Other Service Learning Projects: Easter Basket for the Troops, Elderly Pen Pals, Project Secret Santa.

“First and foremost, this daycare is spectacular. They are all very professional and have the perfect mix of structure and fun with a healthy dose of kindness. Isaiah Martinez has attended the YMCA day care since April 2012. As a single mother who is currently working and attending school, finding the right after school child care is very important to me and my family. Over the years Isaiah and I have come to build close relationships with not just the staff but the other children and their parents.  The after school extended hours are great for working families like myself.  We came from a day care who wasn’t “in the loop” of the every day occurrences that went on with the kids. Mr Brian has shown that he is very much involved with everything that’s going on with all the students.  As a parent it is very comforting to know that your kids safety comes first.  Mr Brian has a true passion for child care, it reflects on the community events that are held as well as the staff working at the YMCA.  I highly recommend Wood Canyon YMCA for child care needs.”

“My son has been attending the YMCA on campus at Wood Canyon since June of 2014. We absolutely love what the YMCA does for him. The summer program was head and shoulders above the program at his pre-school, and for half the price! We also love all the activities the kids do, the K+ program, the field trips and just about everything else about our Y. We love the staff and how engaged they are. Each one cares and it shows. My wife and I truly appreciate Brian Pearcy and his commitment/dedication to children, their well being and the values and beliefs the YMCA stands for. We’re also involved with the Parent Advisory Council and it’s been said before that all the parents appreciate “Mr. Brian” and his staff. It’s obvious this is not just a job for them. Every event we’ve attended, council meeting we’ve participated in and field trip we’ve taken have been well thought out, executed and fun for the kids not to mention educational and with purpose. We know our son is getting the best of fun and education at our Y and to us, there is nothing more we can ask for! Every morning my son asks if he gets to go to the Y before school and if we’re running late he’s sad he missed it, enough said.”

“Our daughter struggled with the transition from kinder to 1st. She had a hard time being away from home. She quickly got attached to Miss Natalie and preferred to stay with her. Brian was very accommodating in our request to keep Madison with Miss Natalie till we overcame some of her anxiety issues. I can’t thank all of the staff Madison had interactions with this year. They have been wonderful, patient and so very kind. We are thankful they are part of the wood canyon campus. Love the staff. Especially Brian Pearcy. He’s a keeper!”
