YMCA Provides P.E. Program for
Orange County Elementary School
The George White PTA (George White Elementary) announced last week that they will be adopting the YMCA’s structured P.E. program modeled after the Physical Education Content Standards for CA public schools. In the announcement was a message from the President of the California State Board of Education, Glee Johnson;
“These standards focus on the content of physical education and incorporate the detail required to guide the development of consistent, high-quality physical education instructional programs aimed at student learning and achievement. The standards provide a comprehensive vision of what students need to know and be able to do at each grade level.”
George White Elementary in Laguna Niguel will be one of the only schools in the area to offer a structured physical education program and had many people to thank for supporting the PTA‘s effort, including volunteers, teachers, staff members, and school Principal Mr. Andrew Klinkenberg. The program will allow students to participate in new sports and fitness exercises such as soccer, basketball, track & field, kickball, t-ball, capture the flag, bean bags & tennis ball activities, and cooperative & movement games designed to develop fundamental and advanced motor skills, improve students self-confidence, and provides opportunities for increased levels of physical fitness.
